What is SPRAVATO®?

SPRAVATO (esketamine) is an FDA-approved nasal spray used alongside an oral antidepressant to treat adults with treatment-resistant depression. Unlike traditional antidepressants that primarily affect serotonin or dopamine, SPRAVATO targets glutamate, a neurotransmitter involved in mood regulation and brain connectivity.

By working through a different pathway in the brain, SPRAVATO may help restore communication between brain cells affected by depression. Because of its unique mechanism, it can offer hope for individuals who have tried multiple medications without experiencing meaningful improvement.

Treatment is administered in a certified medical setting where your care team can monitor your safety and response.

Why Consider SPRAVATO®?

If depression continues despite trying multiple medications or therapy approaches, it may be time to explore alternative treatments. SPRAVATO is designed specifically for individuals with treatment-resistant depression who need a different therapeutic option.

Some patients consider SPRAVATO when symptoms such as persistent sadness, low motivation, fatigue, or emotional numbness interfere with daily life. Others seek it when previous medications have provided only limited relief.

Because it works differently from traditional antidepressants, SPRAVATO may help stimulate new neural connections in the brain, supporting improved mood and mental clarity over time when used as part of a comprehensive care plan.

Who Is SPRAVATO® Best For?

SPRAVATO is typically recommended for adults diagnosed with treatment-resistant depression, meaning they have tried at least two antidepressant medications without sufficient improvement. It may also be considered for individuals whose symptoms significantly affect their ability to function at work, at home, or in relationships.

Patients who benefit most often feel stuck despite ongoing treatment and are looking for a new approach guided by experienced clinicians.

During your consultation and evaluation, your provider will carefully review your medical history, current symptoms, and treatment background to determine whether SPRAVATO is an appropriate and safe option for you.
